San Pietro in Bevagna

San Pietro in Bevagna is a seaside village on the Salentina peninsula in the Puglia region of southern Italy. The village is located on the coast of the Gulf of Taranto in the Ionian Sea, 10 km from the town of Manduria and 50 km from the provincial capital, Taranto. San Pietro is well known for its long white sandy beaches and deep blue sea. The climate is Mediterranean, with average temperatures of 25–30 °C in June.

The nearby town of Manduria, with 32 800 inhabitants, is an attractive ancient town with roots deep in the past. Many civilizations, including the Greeks and the Byzantines, have left their mark in this area. Remarkably, the town’s megalithic stone walls and the necropolis, which dates from the 7th century BCE, are still partially preserved. Manduria is also very famous for a particular local wine, Primitivo di Manduria, which is rich in flavour and alcoholic content.

Many other interesting and beautiful towns and cities are situated near the meeting venue, including Lecce, which is well known for its Baroque art; Ostuni, which is known as “the White Town” for its white buildings and ancient walls; Martina Franca, which has a particularly picturesque old town; and Alberobello, which is famous for its unique cone-shaped stone houses called “trulli”.
